You play as Lenneth. A Valkyrie. A chooser of the slain. You have been set the task of scouring the world looking for the souls of great warriors to recruit them for the inevitable battle, which will take place at the end of the game; Ragnarok. But of course it's never that simple.

This game hasn't actually been released in the UK sadly, but I managed to pick up a copied version for surprisingly cheap on a holiday in Turkey. From the moment I put it on I literally could not put it down. I'd always been fascinated by Mythology, moreso Norse than any other and I guess being able to play out an adventure in that world was what drew me in.

The way in which the game was presented, all aspects from graphics to music to dialogue were top notch and I really couldn't fault it. The twists and turns of the story kept me on the edge of my seat and I thought that the A ending, which I eventually got on my third time through opened up a lot of the story and wasn't just one of those cheap extra scenes, but rather a good section of the game.

The game's a must buy if you can actually get it, at least for me. It's somewhat of a rarety these days but if you manage to find a copy, get it. Honestly, it's one of the best RPGs on the PSX and I'd go as far as to say ever. It is being re-released on the PSP, but I'm not sure if that's going to get a UK release.

With a prequel on the horizon (Silmeria), what are everyone else's thoughts on it? If you're interested in the game then feel free to ask whatever you want.

Where, pray tell, did you manage to get a copy from? Is it PAL?

I was not terribly impressed with this game. I believe it is because the party was far too fluid. The story was OK, but not up to my usual expectations.

I, personally, would rate this as a medeocre game, and I didn't play it more than a few days before selling it back.

What did you think to the opening? How are you finding the first dungeon, the characters and the EXP Stat system? What do you think of the battle system?

Ive only just arrived at the Artolian Mountain Ruins, I played it the night before my first day at work, so I had to save it. The opening is ok, Im not 100% happy on the voice acting, the opening was mainly that, but hopefully the whole game wont be full of it. I like Lenneth, she seems strong and determined to fulfill her quest.

I like the battle system because its turn based and also its interesting because Ive been told that you can get better attacks depending on what order you press the buttons. Maybe thats a rumour, but thats what I heard.

Knowing this question is directed to ~SS~, I'll still take it, since I am in the same position as her, except I purchased mine from my video store, a little beat up, but still good. I was inspired by your first post this morning, so I went and bought it.

The opening? brilliant. I too arrived at the Artolian Mountain Ruins, and I find Freya to be a bit annoying, but apart from that I am in love with the unique battle system and characters. Flying around confused me at first, but I came through and find my way, eventually...

It's a great game, no doubting that.

My memory is a bit rusty, but if I recall correctly you get bonus to damage if the hits are close (timeline wise) together. Thus, if one character takes 1 second from button press to attack, and another takes 2, you would press the two second, wait a second, press the one second, and your total damage will chain together for a larger total than each individual attack.

Interesting, but as I remember, it leaves you with one basic attack per character, with possible changes based on timing.

Again, my answers might be a bit rusty, but it's how I remember it.

Valkyrie Profile was one of those underrated games that didn't quite catch alot of attention.

The Norse Mythology aspect was what hit the home run. I was fascinated with the myth at the time. The battle system was turn-based, yet the fast pace nature of it made it good.(Purification was so fun, chaining combos after combos). Customization was also very extensive, with the Traits you would handle all your einherjars anyway you want before sending them off to Asgard.(Or keep them however you want.) And one of those few RPGs that had decent voice acting.

Definately a game worth playing.
