Hi there folks,

Just recently I decided to whip out the old Super NES and embark for my second adventure through the World of Balance and Ruin. It has been many years since I have played the epic Final Fantasy III and I wanted to enjoy it once again and get all the things that I missed when I was a young child.

Normally when I play video games I never use a guide and I did not the first time I played FF III but this time around I have been following a online walk through just to make sure I get things that I never got in the passed.. *cough cough* Shadow..

But to be honest, I can't stand following guides. I feel like it takes all the fun out of the game and it is such a pain having to keep getting out of my seat, walk to my computer, read the text and walk back to my SNES just to make sure I get a item in a cave.

Anyways, I am currently in the World of Ruin, just got there to be exact and I was wondering if anyone here can give me a little info on things that I should worry about or look out for so I don't have to keep reading guides every second to make sure I am not missing a once in a life time event or weapon/item.

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks! :D

Being that the World on Ruin is so open it would be hard to suggest specific points, although obviously you will be using up to 12 of your party in the Final Battle so it would be a good idea to have your characters at a respectable level with a solid variety of magic between them, also having strong weapons is a bonus!

You are not willing to read a guide? But you want us to fill in all of the important things which you would need to get out of your seat for anyway?

Why not just print the walkthrough? Better still, buy the official one?

The World of Ruin is huge, it is not linear, so for us to write everything down would be very long and would be no different to you having a walkthrough. There is about 14 characters to obtain, and whilst the story leads you to Celes, Sabin, Edgar, Terra, Setzer and Cyan, the rest is up to you.

My advice, if you do not want to use a guide is to visit every location on the map, and talk to everyone you see to provide clues of more obscure places (such as the Ancient Castle, and the mountains where Locke is hiding).

You should find the following people:
Celes, Sabin, Edgar, Terra, Setzer, Cyan, Relm, Shadow, Strago, Locke, Mog, Umaro, Gau and Gogo (very obscure with very little clues - go the triangler island on the north-east tip of the map and allow your party to be swallowed by a Zone Eater there).

Make sure to get Locke and pick pocket your way into the houses of Narshe. There you will find the Cursed Shield and the Ragnorak sword/Esper. If you to fight with the Cursed shield equipped for 255 battles before it turns into the Paladin shield which is worth while having.

The best relic in the game is the Offering. I'll tell you how to get that. You need to go to the Ancient Castle - to get there, have Figaro Castle go underground, it will hit something. When given the option, choose to look around. Go to the prison room - you will find an open door. This door leads to a cave. In this cave is a Monster-In-A-Box. I think the monster is called Master Pug (an early version of Tonberry). You will get the Offering as a prize. You will find Espers in the Ancient Castle as well. Look around carefully. It's worth going.

If you are going to Doma Castle, put Cyan in your party and take a nap there.

My memory amazes me.

No, the monster you fight isn't a Master Pug, the Pug monsters were just the Woosley'd name of the Tonberries. The monster you fight is some kind of warrior guy, I remember...I think maybe a ninja or some guy with a sword at least (go figure). I'm pretty sure this is right because he attacks you multiple times in a row (ala the Offering, I assume).

whilst the story leads you to Celes, Sabin, Edgar, Terra, Setzer and Cyan, the rest is up to you.

The story leads to Gau & Relm and/or Shadow just as much as Sabin, Terra, & Cyan. I mean, Sabin's just in the nearest town from where you land...Terra is completely avoidable if you just happen to go in the opposite direction on the Serpent's Trench...and Cyan TELLS you about Gau...and the cave that Relm or Shadow is in is on the Veldt.

No wonder MY memory is shite, it's full of RPG nonsense...V_V

That guy is actually inside the Castle. I'm talking about the monster in the cave. I remember that guy, and I used the offering against him, I'm sure. Either way, the Offering is inside the Ancient Castle scenario.

EDIT: Nah, you're right. The Offering is left to the entrance of the Castle. If you not trained up, save before you go in. He can be difficult for the untrained party. :)

Thank you all very much for the information! I hope my question didn't sound too ridiculous, I am just worried I will miss a item or such that I will not be able to acquire after a certain event. You helped me more then enough. Thanks again!

A few tips for the Followers of Kefka's Tower (it's in the middle of the Serpent's Trench, accessable by air only):

1) Since monsters (and you, btw) can only use Magic in this place, it's a good idea to equip Reflect Rings for an easy way to the top.

2) An easier way to the top is to use Mog's Moogle Charm, which negates all but boss battles.

3) Having Life 3 and/or the Pheonix Magicite (which casts Life 3 on the party) is a good idea because the final boss with Ultima you upon death. You can also give your characters ginormous (go dictionary!) Mag Def boosts using certain equipment (& Shell or Shell-enducing Relics)...but I'd just go with one of the Life 3 ways.

Waiting at the top of the tower is the Gem Box, which lets one party member have access to X-Magic (cast two spells in a row).

I missed Shadow when I played through the game first time too (PSX port). They don't make it very obvious that you can save Shadow. I still wouldn't have known that you could get Shadow in the World of Ruin if it wasn't for forum discussions about it.

I'm currently playing through FFVI Advance without a guide. It's brilliant. Though is it just me or is this game easier than before? I haven't had any trouble at all defeating the bosses so far (I'm in the World of Ruin now). In most cases, my characters are almost at full health when I finish the bosses off. I swear it wasn't this easy on the PSX. But maybe I'm just more clued-up now.

Restoring Cid back to health was a bitch. Dammit why can't he fight a little harder? Poor old Celes had to run as fast as she could back and forth every day for a fish. And is it just me or does her calling Cid 'granddad' seem a bit... wrong? :S

I'm now wondering how to find Locke. I have all the characters back in my party besides Shadow, Locke and Strago, plus I have Mog and Umaro too. And I can't remember where to find them. So at the moment I'm flying around the world going everywhere. I'm in the phoenix cave at the moment, though I don't really know what it is and why I'm there (plot hasn't explained anything about it so far and I can't really remember from when I played the PSX version). I think I'm stuck, though I'm sure there must be a way to get out. There must be reason for going in there.

Could anyone tell me how to get Locke?

Just continue in Phoenix Cave. ;)

Locke is in the Phoenix Cave. Continue through there and you will find him. Once found you will be teleported to Kohlington automatically.

Ah. Thanks. So it seems I stumbled onto the right track. I really don't know why I can't remember where the characters have gone. I saw Shadow somewhere but he wouldn't join the party. Now I've been to the coliseum but he's not there (I heard he would be there). And another thing, how does one avoid Chupon's snort attack?

You can get Shadow at the Coliseum by betting a Striker to battle. You will battle Shadow, and easily defeat him. He will then join your party for good.

This is if you:
* waited for Shadow at the end of the World of Balance
* have the Striker Weapon (can be found in the cave on the Veldt)
* saved a wounded Shadow from the cave in the Veldt (world of ruin)
* and from there, he has left the sick bed of Thamesia to the Coliseum

EDIT: You can't really beat Chupon. I think it may be possible, but extremely unlikely, as he will always snort you out, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Strago is one of the followers at Kefka's Followers' Tower in that place in the middle of the Serpent's Trench I was talking about. Just take Relm and talk to him and he'll rejoin.

I wonder if anybody has actually beaten Chupon before? Or for that matter Ultros!

Ultros battles in the Coliseum? I think the hardest in the Coliseum would be Chupon & Siegfried...They can be beaten, you just have to have an amazing setup (probably Offering+Gengi Glove) & great luck...and lots of leveling, of course...and spamming Esper stat bonuses...
