I've played Final Fantasy before, but only Tactics Advanced and I have the original FFVII still, but I didn't really beat them. And with FF13 coming out it looks so cool I want to get back into Final Fantasy,(tried to get into it..but didn't really work) Anyways I want to get into i, because I love the Kingdom Hearts Games and I want to start from the beginning with Final Fantasy, I already have the emulator and plan on buying the original game from my cousin, but after that is where it gets confusing for me, I know square did some crazy thing with the numbers, can somone give me the whole story, tell me wich is wich andhow I can get all the games and play them in order with the japanese realeses. And if you can tell me if there are any remakes and of wich one and wich one it realy is in order. I have all systems except for xbox/360 so I can just about get whatever comes out. Thx

there's no real need for you to know every part 'cause they're not related to eachother anyway.
that crazy thing is on the begining when one game was named differently in usa and differently in japan, but that shouldn't trouble you.
as far as i see you, you're kind of a game-freak, so you'd better not trouble yourself with final fantasies earlier than 7th part. Get on man with FF7, FF8 and FF9 for the begining, to know what's the series all about and the feeling of them, and than go over to the next parts. But well, the best ones are - as people often say - 7, 8, 9. So well
the 7 part is about Cloud and others. It's long, cool and beautiful and you really should try to play that. Any more infos? Stick around the FFI and read about it.
part 8 is harder, whole junctioning system etc. is pretty strange, but you'd go on with that. It's more complex also, a bit more "real" but still beautiful.
part 9 is colorful and like a fairy-tale. One of the best for me, i loved it, cause it's just pretty and it's really enjoyable. You should aslo try that.
This three for the begining, then you can go on to the roots if you'd like, but i think you wouldn't

Thx, and yea i'm kind off a game freak, but not in school(totally different in school, lots of sports) I will do what you said, but I kind of want to play FF6, its kind of a stupid reason but my last name is Sabin and is there anything messed up with the numbers that I have to look for to play that game.

dont try to understand that
The original North American localization and release of Final Fantasy VI by Square for the Super Nintendo featured several changes from the original Japanese version. The most obvious of these is the change of the game's title from Final Fantasy VI to Final Fantasy III; because the previous installment, Final Fantasy V, wasn't localized in North America at the time, Final Fantasy VI was distributed as Final Fantasy III to maintain naming continuity, as they had done with Final Fantasy IV. Unlike Final Fantasy IV (which was first released in North America as Final Fantasy II), there are no major changes to gameplay, though certain editorial adjustments exist in the English script. In a January 1995 interview with Super POWER magazine, translator Ted Woolsey explained that "there's a certain level of playfulness and ... sexuality in Japanese games that just doesn't exist here [in the USA], basically because of Nintendo of America's rules and guidelines".[53] Consequently, objectionable graphics (e.g. nudity) were censored and building signs in towns were changed, as well as religious allusions (e.g. the spell Holy was renamed Pearl).

How dare you perpetuate such a false stigma! In the classic forums no less! Shame on you. The only reason anybody ever says that is because they haven't PLAYED the oldschool games!

I don't know if I'd go that far...especially if FMAGod is used the the eccentricities of a SRPG like FFTA. While the Junctioning System has a slight learning curve to it, once you get into the swing of things, it becomes infinitely easier than your regular leveling up systems in most RPGs...
As for my own suggestion...You really don't need to worry about the numbering trouble because it's all been sorted out for the North American releases. Just play the GBA versions (& just plain emulate the HELL outta the GBA, really, cause there's TONS of great RPGs and other games for it): FFI & II: Dawn of Souls, FFIV Advance, FFV Advance, & FFVI Advance...I'd suggest the DS of III...but I dunno how well DS emulators are...you don't really need the touch screen for FFIII though, so, yeah...you can either skip that one or NES emulate if you find yourself really into the others first...*shrugs*

okay so are all up to 6 except for three on the gba, and are the games changed at all?

With every re-release, the games are different. They are given graphic updates, extra areas, dungeons, bosses and things like that.
The best version of FF1 and FF2 to date are on the PSP, best version of FF3 and FF4 are/will be on the DS while FF5 and FF6 are for the GBA (but who knows about the future).

Yeah, w/the sales figures for FFIV DS, though, it's lookin like we're gonna get more oldschool DS remakes from Square.
They should have just stuck to the DS from the start. Personally I found the PSP ports to be fairly pointless considering FF1-6 could have been played on the DS thanks to it's GBA compatibility. While it would have also made the GBA versions pointless as well, having them all in 3D for the DS would have been more sensible rather than having updated version spread across multiple systems.
But considering they do these stupid compilations spread across three or four different formats, it's no surprise.

The PSP ones were Anniversary releases, though whether or not that should change anything...*shrugs*
I don't think it does change anything really. Anniversary just gave them a cheap reason to do another senseless port. They could have did something much better for the anniversary.

I think it was also kind of them testing the market for the PSP...Maybe in advance of their Crisis Core release?
I don't think they really need to test the market when it comes to FF7. People would end up buying the game anyway, and giving the amount of PSP users there are, it should do fairly well thanks to name alone. Fanboys would probably make it the most successful PSP game.
