The reason this game received a lot of attention is because most fans believed that this is the first Final Fantasy to have a real sequel, which is not accurate. Final Fantasy V has a sequel which is called Legend Of The Crystals: Based On Final Fantasy.
FFX-2 was the first videogame FF sequel done by Square while Legend of the Crystals was officially endorsed by Square. although lotC is a true sequel it was set a few hundreds years after the FFV while FFX-2 was more like a true but direct sequel as it was a few years after FFX and involved the same characters and discovering what happened next.
well thas the reason every one buy it then they all go like this sux!!!=.=
well i know that they did the sequel because there is so many fans out there that like FFx

Isn't FFIX a sequel of sorts to FFI

I was going to mention as well that FFIX has a lot of links to FFI that make it a sort of 'sequel' in some ways. I think the point is that in FFX-2 it was clear that this was a sequel, whereas I wouldn't have known about FFIX and FFI without reading about it. I never knew about that FFV thing though.
none of the main series games are connected, FFIX just had a lot of references to previous games. there was at least 1 reference to every FF game before IX. it's similar to what FFX-2 did which gives some belief that FFX-2 is a prequel to FF7 just because of two FF7 references
well i know that they did the sequel because there is so many fans out there that like FFx
if only that was the case, FFX-2 was done for reasons other than that. FFXI wasn't a big money maker so Square had to find a way to keep up their profits. since they had all the FFX resources they could reuse them to make a new game, it would be quick, cheap. thanks to FFX: International (which was out 5 months before FFXI) they had already set up a plot for the game to follow which makes me believe that Square had planned to do a FFX sequel in case of FFXI was not successful or took a long time to pick up popularity
Well, I am glad they did, because apart from the very light and bubbly beginning, I thought the story did get darker and more interesting as it went along, I mean the story about Yuna finding Tidus was good, but also explaining about Tidus's past or rather lack of it due to the existance of Shuin was very interesting to me as well as the machina war and how Spira was changing after Sin was defeated.

But Square officially declared Final Fantasy X-2 as the first and direct sequel to Final Fantasy X.
the keywords there would be "first and direct sequel to Final Fantasy X"
as I said, it was the first true and direct sequel videogame, however Square officially endorsed the Final Fantasy V anime which was created Madhouse.
FFX-2 was the first direct sequel, the first true videogame sequel but it wasn't the first true sequel. No matter how you look at this, you can't change that fact.

So doesn't Advent Children count as the second sequel now? after all, they never said it could only be sequel games.
Advent children does sound as a second direct and true sequel, FF7: Before Crisis would be the first true and direct prequel, FF7: Last Order and Crisis Core are hard to really define and FF7: Dirge of Cerberus would be a spinoff sequel.

I heard some rumors the Square plans to relase a game called FF7: Second Stroy that takes place between FF7 the game and FF7:AD. Have you heard anything about that?

Ok I'm confused, so is FFX-2 the true first sequel to a FF game or is it Legend of the Crystal, cause I hadn't heard of lotc until I read this thread.

well what you've got to think about is that although x-2 is a direct sequel every single final fantasy has a lik to a previous.i.e the music the character sketches the soppy love stories the list is endless

I think that it was kinda necessary to have x-2, I mean, just leaving her off never to see him again, wouldnt have worked out well for the company, I feel, because fans wouldnt have liked that it didnt have an alternate ending, or something. Thats why I feel it was needed. I agree that it started off bubbly and worked into a more advance plot-line... I wouldnt say its my favorite game, because x is, but thats because it didnt have just one plot going on, there were many different, and when you think you've solved one... another comes up. But it was a very good game, and I give them a lot of credit

To my knowledge, (what little there is left) FF7: Advent Children though a film is a direct sequel to FF7 is it not? And Dirge of Cerberus has some link to the previous FF7's, it could be a sequel!!

Someone told me that Second Story was just some lame animation made by a fan. Not completely positive but that's what I've heard.
