View Full Version : Eden You're An Idiot

What, like Keira Knightly? Snarf!

I agree that many blockbusters go for the lowest common denominator, but King Kong (like Return Of The King) was an exception. It featured a recent Oscar winner in Adrien Brody, and although Naomi Watts had little to do but scream, I thought she was surprisingly good, and made her own mark on an otherwise thankless role. It was a gorgeous film. Didn't it get any of the more "minor" nominations?

If you can't see Watt's character as anything other than a scream machine then the respect I had for you re: cinema has all but vanished, your cassel love stops me from completing the disrespect process

I just fucking said that, nimrod!

People are bound to have different opinions?

I just fucking said that, nimrod!

But the character herself is actually really well written, Watts is outstanding though, who instead of screaming takes an active part in her relationship with Kong

I hated King Kong. Not Watt's character. Dumb animals make me cry.

Oh Jesus...

I said it was a thankless role... she plays the damsel in distress who's not expected to do anything but look doe-eyed into sunsets and run around in a nightie.

However, she comes out of it surprisingly well; she really doesn't come across as the arse-pain I thought she'd be. I don't agree that the role was well-written, it does nothing to subvert the usual woman-needs-man-to-save-her shite at all. But, being that King Kong was a remake of a classic, I hardly expected the role to be updated from the original into some sort of Lara Croftathon.

Active part in the relationship with Kong... I agree, but I think this was down to Watts' own input as opposed to good screenwriting.

Jackson has a good enough handle on making the best out of female roles, though... hmm...

It is a thread about my mental faculties.

They have diminished somewhat as I'm after watching the "dancing" extra in Fahrenheit.

I don't care what people think of this, but whilst I thought Peter Jackson's version was better than the original - they are both shite. Sadly Peter Jackson's version, is all "lol look at our recycled LoTR camera effects and go wow at our extravagant special effects and over the top exaggerated action scenes, oh here's some character development, no wait - we need action again." Repeat over and over and over and over. It's still better than the original, but it was hardly an amazing film. I admit I was getting quite bored of Jackson's version by the end of it. It was more auteurism than anything of much substantial depth. The sad thing is it started out really well, it ends well. It's just the crap in the middle with the dinosaurs and whatnot just went on for far too long and it's almost as if it was there to wake up the people who had been bored by the opening character development and then to bore them with lots of action so that they miss the character development at the end.

Meh.

Lay into me about this as you will because ho noes I don't agree with Spike about a film.
