Just bought the game and was wondering what everyone thinks the best combination of dress sphere's is?

Just looking at one per character.

I use:

Yuna - Gunner

Pain - Warrior/ Black Mage

Rikku - Thief

Any thoughts?

The first battle with Yuna shows you how to do it, I think you push L1 or something like that, if in doubt consult the guide book that is located on the inside of your game case.

Yuna: Gunner
Paine: Samurai
Rikku: Samurai
That fits nicely with my strategy of huge physical hits.

Lately I've been using the following:

Yuna - Lady Luck
Rikku - Beserker
Paine - Samurai

Put Cat Nip on Yuna and she can deal more damage with Four Dice than using Trigger Happy as a Gunner. Without it she's still able to constantly inflict critical hits.

Instant death to all. That's what's so special. 32MP for Shin Zantestu. When you get Zantestu later, instant death to one but no MP needed.

Myself, I like this combo/s:
Yuna: Dark Knight / Black Mage
Rikku: White Mage / Lady Luck
Paine: Samurai / Trainer

These combos work rather well for me.

Find out for yourself. Scan the boss. If it says it's immune to death, than no. Each boss is different.

Well I'm trying to master each dress sphere the thing is i fucked up. I liked being tough so I used almost all the better ones early on and now im stuck with shitty dress spheres.

Heh I know the feeling! ;) Unfortunately there's no "fun" way in mastering the boring dresses. Just curious, wich dresses are boring to you?

it's boring but at the end it sounds pretty cool!!i think the right combination is:

Yuna: Dark Knight/Alchemist
Rikku: Thief/Black Mage
Paine: Samurai/Warrior

I like to have a flexible party that can cast black magic, white magic, and attack physically. For that reason, I go with one Alchemist (serves the purpose of a white mage) and two Dark Knights. Dark Knights are great because they have high HP, can cast black magic, are strong physical attackers, and have high physical/magic defense. Other than mascot, these are without a doubt two dresspheres you want.

If you don't have those dress spheres, I would go with a white mage, a black mage and a warrior for the reasons stated above.

As an aside, once I get Lady Luck in chapter 3, I put all three girls on Lady Luck, then I kick some major butt by doing the following:

1. Teach them Two Dice
2. Tell them to learn Double EXP
3. Use nothing but Two Dice until all girls learn Double EXP
4. Level up like a mother for the rest of the game.

Seriously, this is an under-rated strategy... I end up using nothing else but Lady Luck except for boss fights. Because when it comes down to it, leveling up is unfortunately usually the core of beating all FF games.

I always had a few Dress Spheres I liked for the characters.
Yuna; I always liked her as a Black Mage/White Mage/Gun Mage type. She was my Mage woman.
Rikku; I loved her Warrior Dress Sphere, so I often had her in that or Dark Knight, sometimes Gambler [because it's funny].
Paine; ended up as my healer, she was usually a White Mage, sometimes a Gunner.

I think the strategy is pretty cool.My only problem is that I can't beat that f***ing Shinra....

i had
paine:dark knight
yuna: beserker
rikku: blk mage/alchemist.

i know this isnt in the question but a very good item mix is;
phoenix down+hi-potion
coz it makes a final phoenix which revives all KO'd characters to full health

I'm only halfway through the game so I'd say:

Yuna-Gunner/White Mage
Rikku-Theif/Black Mage
Paine-Warrior/Dark Knight

But when I start playing it some more I might have diff. faves.

I always start out Yuna as a Black Mage, then change her back over to Gunner when elemental magic stops working all that well. Riku eventually gets moved over to White Mage/Alchemist for boss battles, just because she doesn't really lend herself to anything else. Paine is my melee girl, so Dark Knight most of the time.

Now, all that said, I think it is best to switch jobs a lot during the game, especially in boss battles. For example, there are some enemies where you need a Berserker or Songstress, so you need to make sure everything is always leveled to handle every situation.

This is what I like to use

Yuna/Gunner
Rikku/Samurai
Paine/Alchemist

but I find the Samurai to be very useful also with samurai you can do a crazy amount of damage with the momentum ability and have Break Damage Limit, but when Yuna and Paine weren't in Gunner or Alchemist I'd put them in Dark Knight for the great Defense and all those status proofs

My team is as follows (all have Mascot for backup):

Yuna - Lady Luck/Gunner/Dark Knight/Trainer

Rikku - Alchemist/Thief/Berzerker/Black Mage

Paine - Samurai/Warrior/White Mage/Dark Knight

Yeah, I know I use a lot at the once, but my Boss team is:

Yuna - Dark Knight (Darkness)
Rikku - Alchemist (Mega Potion)
Paine - Dark Knight (Darkness)

I spam the moves in brackets repeatedly - works a chram. Really cheap too.......I`m ashamed. But it beat Angra Mainyu ever so easily!

I always use:

Yuna - Lady Luck
Rikku - Beserker
Paine - Dark KnightBut this is just my pref. Hard hits with a little luck thrown in !!!

Yuna: Dark Knight or Black Mage, depends on the situation.
Rikku: Alchemist :D.
Paine: Dark Knight or Berserker.. depends whether or not the enemy's a pushover.

Yuna - Dark knight, lady luck, Samurai, White Mage
Rikku - Thief, Alchemist, Berserker
Paine - Warrior, Dark knight, Trainer

I just choose the dresses that I think they suit the characters most
but still I never use Gunner ....it's rubbish ! Rikku is somehow really suits the Berserker dress I dont know why and Paine is just right for the dark knight and for Yuna, I think White Mage suits her a lot. HOwver the HP is way too low so I'd rather have her worn the others and equiped the white lore

I haven't got my hands on it yet-but am seriously planning to and have done an awful lot of research, if you will, on it, and here's what I plan to go for. I wouldn't just have the girls learn skills in the Dresspheres I'm listing-I'd train them in these DSPs (assuming I only use Garment Grids with 5 slots):

Yuna - Gun Mage (primary), Gunner, White Mage, Black Mage, Warrior
My shot at mixing the old and new Yuna in terms of fighting roles. Gun Mage sounds perfect for building Yuna that way (both with good Strength and Magic). Gunner is in there for two reasons: because it's her new starter, and because it can offer Trigger Happy and "Defense bypass" strikes such as Cheap Shot, Scatterburst, and Tableturner, plus Darkproof and Sleepproof, while Warrior is in there for the elemental attacks, the Breaks, the Delay skills, and added Defense/Vitality (including SOS Protect), which is perhaps a dedicated Gun Mage's only deficiency. I'd also like to get her some magic on both sides (White Mage as a sop to FFX, Black Mage to take added advantage of the good Magic that Gun Mage offers.)

Rikku - Thief (primary), Alchemist, Lady Luck, Warrior, Berserker
For my party, I really want to incorporate Yuna's and Rikku's old styles into their new styles, so Thief is basically a given for her, as well as Alchemist so that she always has her old Overdrive on call (watered down, but constant access to it makes up for that) as well as the Stash. From there, I'm picking out Lady Luck (yes, I'm going to risk pulling my hair out while trying to beat Shinra) so that she can get Bribe back into her repetoire and get those cool passives like SOS Spellspring and Critical, Warrior so that she can take more advantage of that Thief double attack and learn some more attacks, and Berserker so that she can learn Auto-Regen, Counter, and Evade & Counter to help keep her on her feet. (Note: Berserker was thanks to your suggestions!)

Paine - Warrior (primary), Samurai, Berserker, Dark Knight, White Mage
Warrior is a given for Paine because it suits her personality, as do Samurai and Dark Knight. Berserker is in there so that she can learn Counter and Evade & Counter and deal big damage even when it's not her turn, and White mage so that she has a little more Magic Defense and some support spells.

well yuna had mastered the white mage fully and more then half for the songstress.
Rikku had mastered her dark knight and now i am mastering my alchemist dress sphere which is taking alot of time.
Paine has mastered her Dark knight and i think still has to master her warrior but only a few abilities left...

Atm I just need to get 100% with Yuna on Alchemist and Gambler, Rikku with Gambler and Mascot, Paine with Beserker and Mascot. So I just use which/who ever needs it

I can't remember what I did for the first part of the game, but from the middle of the 3rd Chapter and onwards, I used Dark Knight with everyone. I put Rikku in the Garment Grid that allowed her to use White Mage abilities, as she mastered then before. I gave Paine the Grid that lets her use her Warrior abilities as she had also maxed them out. I gave Yuna a Garment Grid that gave her strenght up.
My tactic was to use the ability Darkness as much as I could, and have Rikku heal when it was nessecary, and Paine use Excalibure if the enemy wasn't immune to the holy element.

I would have to say that my approach was master as many as possible untill I had dark knight.

I ended the game with the following combination mainly in use.

Yuna Ladyluck and switch available to dark knight and white mage
Rikku Dark knight with swtch available to white mage
Paine White mage with switch to dark knight

You can't get her special anywhere but Chapter 1 or 2. You'll need to wait until you beat the game and then use new game+ to get it.

Yeah you have to get it at that time, I don't actually use them that much, just Yuna's b/c she don't do to much damage! ahah... this is what i'm tending to use these days:
Yuna - Dark Knight
Rikku - Dark knight
Paine - Alchemist (with the pride of sword garmet grid because i have the warrior mastered for her:D)
