When i play final fantasy in some aspects i can feel this game are in some way sad, i said ´cause the music you can feel some sorts of feeling and the themes in the game always talk about the solitude, the hate and the love that never will be. The question is: its me or the game? i hope the game jaja:)

Some of the games were pretty depressing on certain parts, but then you just say to yourself "Ah it's just a game". Just kidding I cried my eyes out when Aeris died on FF7:T_T: . It made me wanna eat sm ice cream or smthn.

Final Fantasy games are designed to evoke feelings from the player. There's moments of a light-hearted, uplifting nature (the brief interludes in FFIX with Quina), but there's also moments of tragedy (when Lindblum is attacked by Brahne, also in FFIX). What's a videogame with a plot worth if it doesn't make you feel emotionally tied to it to a certain extent?

Yeah, the games have stories...Stories often yield emotional responses. Welcome to the real world. The Matrix has you. All for one and one for all! ...er...
The two saddest FF scenes are as follows *spoils 4 FFVI & FFT*
1) The story and death of Rachel in FFVI. Man, the Empire's a bunch of bastards.
2) The death of Teta in FFTactics. Man, Algus and Ramza's brothers are bastards.

It's nice to believe that there are somewhat realistic problems and heartfelt sadness in games, from Maria trying to reunite with her brother to Tidus leaving Yuna, the series is full of emotion. It wasn't until 8 that there was a hardcore romance, while I thought it was sappy and stupid, it did evoke emotion in some. Aerith's death was a big selling-point for people. I think that if a game doesn't convey emotion at least in one way, it's not really trying to capture the experience that a good game should show.

It's perfectly normal to feel depressed at certain points because the games do tend to have storylines that suck you into it (kudos to the Square-Enix writers!) I know I was tossed about emotionally like that in FF7 and FF10...

Hello? Did I not just mention Locke & Rachel from FFVI? Plus, most of the love story in FFVIII was just rehashed from the love triangle in FFIV between Cecil, Rosa, & Kain (Squall, Rinoa, & Seifer).

Originally Square wanted to have a love triangle between Squall, Rinoa and Seifer. They scrapped that during the development phases and only a few remenats remain in the storyline.
A Final Fantasy game gets me depressed when it ends. I have nothing to play anymore. :(

I know what you mean. When it's over it's like, "well my journey in this new exciting world is over. Back to boring reality." I have to admit that's the most depressing part of any FF game.

No way, a good ending is it's own reward! It's about the journey, not the results! Wow, did I just make two conflicting statements that are both true?!?
Also, Laguna & Raine>Squall & Rinoa

I know, really! I always eat ice cream when i'm sad! I am currently playing FFX....my first FF game by the way...........IT IS SO SAD!!! I don't cry very easily. Not even in movies! It's crazy! But i guess that's why we like it so much! You actually feel the game as you play!

What about the strange love connection with Aeris & Cloud, Tifa & Cloud, Tifa & Barret, and Cloud & Barret? (Get him on the Gold Saucer date to understand what I mean ;) )

They are sad in parts. The developers are very good at attaching you to characters only to kill them off before your eyes as an essential part of the storyline. I love the rich and ever changing plot of the games, it can be dpressing at times but it can also bring happiness and surprise; like the part in FFIX at the end when you think that Zidane sacrafices himself but in reality he is still alive. It fills you with joy and happiness. But I think that yes, the games are depressing in the sense that they are all held during times of opression in some way or another. Some evil rises to power and seemingly cannot be stopped. That is why they seem depressing and the music does do al lot to add to that. (I almost cried when Aeris died too):T_T:

Like everybody else said, the game is specifically designed to invoke emotions in the player. In my experience, I've never felt a longing sadness from a Final Fantasy game and I've witnessed individual deaths to entire kingdoms being destroyed. One of the main reasons it doesn't really leave a lasting impression on me (aside from not really caring about games that much) is because no matter what, your party will save the day at the end of the game.
No matter what megalomaniac is plotting to destroy the entire world, fuelled by questionable motives and a crazy plan, I know my party will be there on the final disc to destroy him. Final Fantasy always leaves you with a happy ending :(
