View Full Version : Main Charactors as summons?

I would like to see a newer game that uses the heros of legends of the past(older FF games that in the new game are told as stories to entertain children, and generally seen as fiction rather than history) like Cloud, Terra, Sephroth, etc. as the summons. I think this woud be a great new direction to take the Summons in. What are the opinions of the FFI family?

I kinda like this idea actually. A while ago my friend and I were discussing Aeris, and thought she would make a good summon. I think the idea would kida fit too. Especially if they ever remake FF7 (I know they probably wont). Having her come back (as a summon) with some sort of Holy based spell would be a good idea, or as a healing summon perhaps.
Or additionally, if they use the Esper system, Aeris could teach you Holy/Pearl/Cure something like that, or be a Guardian Force since she's kinda still alive in the lifestream, FF7's endning showed she wasnt really gone.
Also Terra is a summon, so it would make sense to see her return too. She could deal with Black MAgic based attack if the summons were involved in spell teaching.
I like the idea. Im not too sure about Sephiroth though, Summons/Guardian/Espers tend tow ant to help you out.
My other problem with it is that it would inevitably cause big arguments amongst fans as to who should or should not have been included etc. 'OMG why is so and so in, theyre not as important to FF as Character-x is' etc.
But in general I like the idea.

There are so many fans of Sephiroth that I think he would work as one of the Summons you have to really work hard to get. Like Anima in FFX. I am having a very hard time thinking of any other good references. The Summons, GFs that you have to beat in a fight to get usually tend to want to help you if you can beat them. I think Sephiroth would make a good addition to this summons type.

ummm is a great idea, but, i can´t imagine cloud or sephiroth like that. The summons are always a spirit diferent than the physical body and will be like a monster and a horrible character.

I wish people would spend more time getting excited about all the new things that are coming with FFXII and XIII, and less time figuring out absurd ways to shoehorn old, played-out characters back into the mix.

So I guess that means that you do not like the idea then? Well I wasn't trying to Shoehorn anyone into back into the mix. I just thought that would be an interesting new spin on the Summons.

I do not see why they can't let them look as they did in their original games. Better graphics of course. I would love to see what they can do, with the technology they have today, with how they would end up looking. Maybe they can have all their limit breaks be their attacks that they use.
Bad idea.
I could see it being a good Kingdom Hearts feature because they already do it with Disney characters, so FF characters wouldn't be that bad. Unfortunately Square were whoring FF7 back then so i'd not expect a character like Sephiroth and Cloud (when you can see them fighting each other or even fight them) but I could see some characters being good KH summons.
From a FF game point of view, one of the worst ideas. Just including one previous character would ruin the game because all you'd get is shitting theories, plots stories and rumours about how the games are all connected or a FF game is connected to an old one (like what they did with FFX-2 and FF7 because of Shinra).

I TOTALLY agree, it's not sumthing Square would do with Fianl Fantasy. I'm pretty sure they would do it with Kingdom Hearts, but not FF.
So, that's y I think it's a bad idea....

What the hell? Didn't I make this suggestion in the Future Final Fantasy forum just a few days ago? I said that the next FF should have Summons as the main characters and that they would summon characters from the past FFs...Although, I was joking (of course)...>_>

Though summons were a part of Final Fantasy for a while I believe we should do away with them. Summons had their roots somewhere in FFIV or one of those games and reached it's peak in FFIX and FFX. I am getting bored of how summons/esper/eidolons/GF/aeons play a huge role in the storyline.

I think you should het summons like that in Kingdom hearts. Imagine you beat Sephiroth in the coliseum then he can help you out with heartless and shit.

this is a really good idea instead of having humans you have a team of 4 summons!

i have an idea then... how bout a game which doesnt invole the summons as part of the storyline? that would make sense then.
Oh and as for the characters as summons, im confused, how would they fit into ANY storyline? it would have to be a nvelty game that has them
Sensei Reno
07-12-2006, 10:42 AM
well they could be in the world of just aeons or whatever you waNT TO call the summons

again i want to point out, how would that fit into a story? im confused cause if they did what you and others have said then it would be seen as a cash in. which therefore would then be slated by you all who think it, cause it is not original. therefore you saying 'a world of summons' would not make a good story AT ALL :)

i think they should make a game where humans fight summons liek in the war of magi but with all the FF main characters ever and all the summons ever all fighting in one epic battle to save the universe

now the idea of fighting against the 'summons' is a good idea :) they just wouldnt be summons in the game. the war thing would make a good storyline. however breinging all the characters back i would say no to that. would be crap lol
the idea of bringing the summons back would work as not every bahmut or ifrit or whoever is the same, as not every animal is the same so different kinds of ech one.

yeh so maybe the idea i had and then some new characters or maybe all the anime characters in one like gene starwind from outlaw star yugi from yugioh and maybe goku from dragonball Z or we could just stick with the new character thing
chris17

new characters would work. if you were to incorperate other characters then it would have to be a kingdom hearts type thing and done very adult. which means that the battles would have to be way advanced of kingdom hearts in terms of moves and that. but im sure someone could come up with it :)

That is not at all what I was saying. In this world the old Charactors would be that of legends to the peole of this world, familiar to us, and could be used as Summons if gotten through the course of the game. They do not need to be part of the plot at all. They can be the spoils of side quests. They could be in a similar form as Espers from FFVI but not that you learn magic from then. They are just the Spirits of great worriors that were saved in crystals and can be called upon if their help is needed.

one problem with that great warriors thing, all different worlds. squall, tidus, cloud and zidane all do not come from similar worlds. as i said before it should be a novelty game this idea, nowhere near a final fantasy game.

I was unawares that over 9 games (well, the summons themselves, if not the ability to summon...but still...) constituted "a while" in a game series...>_>

It's being done.
X-Death, (my old username), the villan of Final Fantasy 5 is going to be a summon in Final Fantasy 12

He wasn't really a "main character" in the sense that I believe people are thinking in this thread...But that's still cool...I guess...X-Death was a pushover though...>_>

I never played FFV so I didn't know he was an old charactor. Thanks for the info. See it was a good idea then wasn't it.:D

Was X-Death even the main villain? If so then yes that would work for what I meant as main Charactors. If he was like Ultros in FFVI then I woud say no. However I think Ultros would make a good summons.

Yeah, he was the main villain...I thought you were talking more about playable main characters though...but like I said, w/e...Ultros would make a better summon than X-Death...I want to see the return of the Light of Judgement myself...^_^

The light of judgement would make a killer summon attack, but that was Kefka not Ultros. Unless my FFVI memory is not as good as I thought.

Yeah, I know it wasn't Ultros...I meant just in general...

I don't think I could get behind Kefka helping out my party though. It just would not be right.

Kefka doesn't have to be involved in the Light of Judgement...Just the three "Gods of War/Magic"...But that would require boobies! >_>
SgtToppin
07-26-2006, 09:43 PM
well um "boobies" would be ok. They can even have fun with it and blurr it out or have something interesting pop up to cover them up at every angle. They can get creative with it. Just look at Cactaur. Every bit of him is for comedic value in FFVIII.

Shiva has been naked in a few of her Summons hasn't she? It's not like it hasn't been done before. Well I am pretty sure she was naked in at least one of them.
