I know we have individual theme songs for the series, but I'm just wondering...
If one or more artists turned out a theme song for the whole FF series (a song entitled Final Fantasy, perhaps), what do you see that song containing?

I would like to see linkin park do one personaly because they make great instrumentals and can do heavy or soft songs. ex. "Numb" soft rock song or "Crawling" no.1 heavy rock of 2003

I tell you what, that would be cool to have Linkin Park do a FF theme! Here are a couple of more nominations from me:
Kanye West & Twista-If Impossible got me moving (It's actually on my X-2 playlist as YuRiPa's hip-hop theme), I'd love to see what they could do with this. I'm sure they'd turn out something that's both great music for the series and a great song in its own right.
Paul Wall-In addition to making grills and hits, the People's Champ is also an avid gamer and a member of the Hip-Hop Gaming League. Talent + enthusiasm for the subject of the song (in this case, Final Fantasy) = something that I'd probably be unable to stop listening to!

Ochestral, please. Vocal songs in most video games are lame, which is certainly the case through the FF series. Nobuo's orchestral compositions are brilliant, anyways.
Paul Wall in a Final Fantasy? Hahahaha. CHOCOBO RAP, BITCHEEEES.

I don't ever want to hear rap in FF. I thought that the music in X2 was abysmal because Uematsu didn't come back to do anything but the Eternity piece that plays at the X2 intro screen. Orchestral by him and a vocal by a reputable asian artist is all that should ever be in an FF game. No pop, rap, rock, or anything like that. Just keep it classic.

I think the orchestral sound goes best with the final fantasy games, It can't been beaten it fits the genre. Maybe someting done by John William and the London Sympony would go ok. But Nobuo Uematsu would have to work alongside Mr. Williams as well.

Just stick with the orchestral peices that they've always been doing.

I have to say orchestral pieces because it is another FF tradition. Not to mention the artists listed above have no chance of every performing the FF theme songs. So far they have been all Japanese and I believe it will stay that way.

Orchestral please! I can't really stand anything else for an RPG game.

Seconded.
Final Fantasy should stick woth orchestral music.
I can't really imagine anything else for an FF game.

And thirded. I try to imagine a FF game with music other than orchestrated music and it just doesn't seem to fit right. Orchestrated music can set a variety of moods, unlike some music. It can make a situation serious, sad, funny, and so on. For an RPG, it just seems to fit the most.

Sorry if this sounds ignorant, but I think rap would be a disgrace to the FF Series. Bitches and hos don't go with chocobos (haha, that rhymed!). I choose instrumentals and orchestrals because the music should reflect the feelings of an environment or time in the game whether it's sad or humerous. Take Aeris' church for example. I could stay there for days and just listen to that song. It reminds you of how peaceful and holy this place is that's in the middle of the Sector 5 Slums. I couldn't EVER imagine a rap beat playing. Save that for Def Jam Fight.
So yes, I go with instrumentals/ orchestrals.

Rap...heh...you're joking right? Orchestra/instrumental thank you. I don't like rap in real life, let alone in the FF series. What is rap anyway? I know... pointless. Rock wouldn't be too bad for those really serious moments, but I would prefer it without the vocals. Pop, maybe cosidering Yuna's case in 10-2. lol

Orchestra score, the way it's meant to be.
I don't think any other type of music will fit better, it has to fit in every aspect
Instrumentals/orchestra score - This is just how FF is done. It's how all fantasy and sci-fi should be done, with a few exceptions. (Otherworld, in FFX. Simple and Clean in KH. Both are appropriate to the games they feature in) None should really be done with big brand stars.
"Serious" music - I assume the romantic tracks in FFVIII and FFX count in this section. Once again, they may be appropriate for one bit in the game, but nowhere else.
Rock - Appropriate sometimes. Otherworld is one example, the music that the Black Mages do is another - if they remade FFVII and had the Black Mages version of Those Who Fight Further, it'd be hardcore. That's mostly because the original was midi, though.
Pop - Hilary fucking Duff? Not in a million years. Simple and Clean in KH fits (also done in orchestral), as does 1000 words in FFX-2, but even then they're a bit awkward and you don't really want to hear them that much.
R&B, Hip-Hop/Rap - Anyone who votes for this has obviously never played a Final Fantasy game in their life - or has, and thinks FFIX is bad because 'The characters look well gay, bruv!'
Hang on, isn't that tune that plays at the beginning of FFVII in quite a few of the games, either on the title or game over screens?

I think what the guy who made the thread was driving at was a single song that uniformly represents the WHOLE SERIES, not just the music for each individual game.
In that case, I have to say steer clear of rap and hip-hop as well, but pop or rock COULD do the case. Orchestral is, of course, always welcome... why wouldn't it be? It's the thing that keeps VG music kicking as is. I noticed the name Enya up there and she, too, could perhaps do a splendid job of making a series theme song.
Though, this is a bit redundant as is, because the Crystal Melody is already the theme song for the whole series. It's just not as notable in some of the games.

I'm still waiting for Amy Lee (Evenessence sp?) to contribute to a game. She has always said her dream was to compose music, and I believe that she has the talent to do it. If I remember correctly, she actually submitted a track for The Chronicles of Narnia (movie) that got turned down because it was to dark.

I would like King Crimson to write a theme song for the series :horns:
The song would be so fundamentally awesome across all twenty odd minutes that you'd forget what you were listening to half way through it. Weighing in at a third of an hour, you'd easily be able to slap some sort of reference to every Final Fantasy game released so far. What's not to love?
