Ive just written my synopsis for my TV screenwriting idea and I wanted peoples opinions on the idea, timeslot, actors chosen, etc. Hopefully soon I will have developed the characters more and I will post that also. Sadly the attachment is too big, well thats what it claims, so here it is:

“Black And White Town”
I was inspired by The Doves song “Black And White Town.” The song doesn’t really speak of racism, however, I thought the title fitted well to the synopsis as Reggie only employs white or black employees. This makes Dklen want to prove to Reggie that there is nothing wrong with employing people from the Asian community. I would like the song to be the musical theme for the show if possible.

Synopsis:
The story is set in Oldham, Greater Manchester in the present day. It follows the story of Reggie Graham, his small company of taxicabs, Reggie’s family and young Pakistan Dklen Mulla. Reggie employs mainly white and black employees; the reason is because he has suffered bad experiences from the Asian community. Enter Dklen Mulla, a 25-year-old Pakistan who decides to enlist at Reggie’s taxi firm to save funds for a University course in Manchester. Reggie is convinced to hire Dklen for a trail period and admits he was too fast to stereotype everyone.

The chosen genre for the show would be drama and would look at the problems of racism in the UK and how people should open their eyes to other cultures and race. The timeslot would be between 9 and 10 pm on ITV and shown on Mondays. I believe Monday evenings would be perfect as ITV hosts its dramas on Monday evenings at the watershed hour. The show would run for 10 episodes, including the pilot.

I would love to have Ricky Tomlinson (The Royal Family, Mike Bassett: Manager) be the lead role as Reggie Graham. The reason is because I think he is an excellent British actor and I seen him as a taxi driver in an episode of “Cold Feet” and he has that relaxing and comforting attitude that you do get from some taxi drivers. Also not only is he comical, but he can be serious at times also. Jimi Mistry was also my first choice for Dklen Mulla, Mistry is a talented actor who I think would be well suited for the challenging and loving 25 year old Dklen.
