Do yopu think they just borrowed the battle system for FFV, it seems very similar with the various charecterists you can choose from, and I thinbk they just screwed it up by changing it. Bad square...BAD!
i don't think they screwed up at all.
having the Dessphere system was a great change from the same system which had appeared time after time and adding wait mode even game the battles a connection to the FFX system. having a preset class for every character is ok, but it makes focusing on characters more interesting when you get the option to customise your characters how you want (like FF7, FF8 and the Advanced grid on FFX).
having the class system was a good replacement for the lack of 7 or 8 playable characters and it gave the game a bit more replayablity if you missed some

But being able to change class through the battle made it significantly worse for me. Plus there where a lot more classes to choose from in 5.

I thought FFX-2's abttle system was the best one of all the games. It was the thing that saved the game from utter bollocksness for me.
I liked the dressphere idea because they essentially were as said before Job's. I loved the ff5 and ff3j job system. FFX-2 added to them greatly and improved graphics and move variety dramatcally. The new kind of faster no breaks, move power up ATB system was great. It made the battles more realistic while staying with the same style of final fantasy fighting.
The battle system of FFX-2 is the only thing about the game I can find no fault with .....except for the battle music, and removal of the classic victory music at the end.
I wouldn't say it's the best, but it definitely beats IX and X's. My main problem with it is the imbalanced charge times before certain attacks – spells and other special abilities usually take at least twice as long as a physical attack to pull off, but rarely do twice as much damage. On top of that, they usually eat up MP as well, so as a result you were often better off not using them.
Why bother casting Firaga, after all, if you can deal the same amount of damage in the same amount of time with a couple of physical attacks, saving on MP?

Even though I hated the game with a passion, I did think the battle system was one of the best systems in all of the final fantasy series. It was fast paced, quick, and looked visually brillaint. Shame it wasnt in any of the better games, but I did like it, and something along the lines of the dress spheres in a future game I reckon would be pretty good.

Are you serioussly sayin it's better than VII's VII system was a masterpeice that allowed you to really customize charecters, with specific abilities. Far better others. X-2 was very unorigonal which used the basics of V
Alkthough yes it did look visually brilliant but then again it was on the PS2 rather than what V was on (SNES was it??)

Maybe not better, but different. VII's battle system could be sluggish at times and the characters at the later stages of the game were all the same as far as abilities were concerned. Seperate classes made it interesting I think.
The way X-2 is done takes a bit of skill to get the combos going and all the rest of it.

I actually quite liked FFX-2's battle system. I thought it was interesting and fun. I liked being able to change in mid-battle. If I wanted to heal, GOGO RIKKU WHITE MAGE or something. I found it a lot more fun than other games battles... "attack...... magic... hope that person has a good spell.... oh yay summon... item, hope that person has good items..." Instead you could be like, "I NEED MAGIC GOGO" or "I need a fighter!" and have them be whatever you wanted them to be at the time. It was fun, one of only good things about FFX-2.

I also enjoyed the battle system a lot. The battles were quick and fast-paced, you didn't have much time to think of a strategy and as soon as you decided what to do, the action was taken (except on delay skills). Speed is a good factor and makes the battles more exciting.
The way the characters would move during battle was great too, though it was annoying when the girls got stuck behind someone or some monster whil e trying to reach the target. Not having a precise location to return after a hit was a nice touch.
The dresspheres were ok too, a weird way to bring back the job system though, but it was a alright.
The battles definitly had the best system IMO, the character customization system wasn't the best however.

Exactly that, the fast-paced battles where really good, it gave it more of a feel that you where in a battle because lets face it if you where in a battle you wouldn't be standing around for half the time would you? So yes the pace was good, I liked that bit a lot.
Dress Spheres where okay, I liked they way you could adapt to every battle you where in by a quick touch of a button.
Oh and I loved that chain attacks.

I honestly thought that the new battle system was amazing. . . it opened up a whole new way of fighting. You can use god knows how many techniques and abilities and you can change these during battle by changing dress spheres.
But the best thing about it I thought was the fact that it makes it faster by being able to attack enemies when they're charging for you and having more than one of your people kicking someone's butt at the same time.
Which I thought was alot more realistic because if you bump into a fiend on your travels I don't think it would stand there and take turns with you, you know what I mean?
But I missed my Aeons so much I felt lost, and I am not saying that the new way is better then say, the VII way.

The battle system was what kept me in the game until the ending. I'd have to admit is is currently the best of the entire FF series until FFXII comes out. Real time is a thrilling experience and constantly changing dresspheres to meet the demands of battle was awe-inspiring.

I loved the battle system for X-2, real time made it more exciting for me, and I loved that you could change your class in mid battle, thats another thing I liked ,having to change class for the battles depending on your oppenent was great, another aspect of the battle system that made it exciting for me.

I liked the battle system is was a nice change. I especially liked that you could attack a feind as it was attacking. And I liked the fact that everytime you enter a battle you stand in a different spot. I though it made it seem more realistic.
With the right accesories spells can be very good, requirering less time than a physical attack and being twice as devastating.

Being able to change mid-battle kind of took alot of the challenge of FF out the game, with most FF's you had to uyse what you have to kill the enemy, in this one you could change what you have to defeat the enemy. A good fight is one where your weakness's are being exploited by the enemy, where as in this one you could always change that to your favour.

This was one of the only things i liked about FFX-2, the Dressphere change was a good idea and the whole battle system made the game a little more fast paced and exciting compaired to FFX battle system. It also felt a little more realistic, like it taking time to charge up a spell insted of just firing out powerful spells in the blink of an eye.

I forgot to mention that I didn't like the the way you activated the ultimate dresspheres. Those are among the few that i have not mastered. It's rather time consuming to change to all your other sphere before you activate it.

They are called special desspheres, not ultimate dressspheres. Only time I've ever used them is when I was down to one girl, and in serious trouble. Other than that, I found fighting with normal dresspheres more powerful, as well as much more flexible.
I'd say the combat system was good, but would have been better if abilities didn't have to queue up, because it really ruins the point of an ATB, and makes chaining for most abilities nigh on impossible.

Use the garment grid that only has 2 nodes, you can switch in 2 moves.
And once they have been mastered they are extremely power. Until you have cat nip and use in junction with trigger happy. God that's powerful

Sorry about that. I haven't played in almost a year.
I was using the 2 node grid, but I couldn't find any fiends strong enough to make it worth while.

They aren't designed to be used normally, hence why they aren't normal spheres, but against the harder enemies.

The two node grid is great since you'll only ever need to make one move to the other dress sphere but what sucks is that one of your members is left out of that grid cause of the two nodes.

I only ever used the two node system to master the ultimate dress spheres, i always used one which would allow the person to use another ability at once...i.e. Black mage with abilities of white mage etc etc

I loved the battle system of this game, it was the storyline and the lame ass characters that spoiled this game for me.
I get where DaZZa is comming from bout the FFV thing. I think it is a mix between FFV and FF7 to be honest

I didn't really like this system much becuz of the wait for spells and potions and stuff. In others games, it's instant which I really like.:D
