So far there has been Dawn of Souls and FFIV Advance . Do you like the finished product more than the original ?

I just prefered the originals because they were old games, and looked the part. In the new games, they are all OK but they look poor graphically - as in, even though they are better looking than the originals, they still look poor and look like a better job of it could have been done. dawn of Souls didnt really impress so Im not going to look into the remakes much.

I'd Prefer the Orignals the Whole way, unless they went drastic and re-made them into 3D then that would be interesting to see

Classic in 3D? Hmm..that would be interesting to see and maybe some FMV's as well...

But I would say the classics are better, from the few I've played anyway.

It would be nice to see games like FF6 in 3D and it to be remade again, but its not going to happen, shame, but the older ones are just too small to do that too anyway. As for the original two - they aint much anyway, just good to have because they are they original FF's.

well I personally like the remakes. Thought the graphics could have been better I'm glad that it wasn't. You see it instills the old game feeling into a little portable classic.

The thing is that the first Final Fantasies didn't have much story , but for instance if they remade FFVI would it be better than the original ??

Because they add on things (additional dungeons, more weapons , better graphics) I think a remake would probably be better . HOwever, why couldnt they just include this in teh first place is another thing .

I like the remakes. I like the modifications they did to the gameplay with the way the battles go (the end of battles were annoying when you got levels). I wouldn't have liked an option to keep the graphics the same as before since it added a nice old school touch.

The remakes are easier to play so I'm happy with them.

I love the remakes, really great graphics compared to what they originally were with extra bits added in.

Graphics is a huge part of the remakes . Now in color and much more detail added to the monsters as well .

I agree that it'd be cool to see FFVI with an updated coating of paint, but I really think that the older games are just fine the way they are and don't really need to be re-made. However, I have to admit that it'd be interesting to explore some of the vintage games' worlds. FFVI had some brilliant enviroments that could look visually stunning if rendered with more advanced hardware.

The remakes are far superior, I don't see how anyone could think otherwise.

It's not like the remakes are changing the game, they just add better graphics and sound for the most part. How is that bad? Giving areas better graphics and sound does the game more justice.

I think anyone who thinks better graphics and sound "ruins the game" is a geeky elitist dork.

eh, It's kind of a toss up.

On some days I like to feel like it's 1984, on others ... I don't.

I picked up all the remakes on PS1 and enjoyed most of them. Never got round to completing FF1 or 2 actually, I kinda lost interest with them..because they simply just seemed to lack a certain something that I got out of the more modern games.

On that note actually, anyone know why FF3 was never released on PS1? Considering that all the other classic ones were...it just seems a bit weird to me.

It's like Star Wars. I grew up with the cheesy animatronic graphics and 80's sound-effects of SW, so when I saw the updated remakes with all the CG hoopla, I cringed. I'd go back to the original VHS's any day of the week.

It might have been different if the upgrades were all a chance I got to watch. I wouldn't have minded so much. XD

Going back to FF's classics; I never got a chance to get addicted to... er, I mean... play them in their original format. I only know (and love) them by their PS1 re-releases, so I don't mind and appreciate the upgrades completely. I might feel different if I'd played the originals on Nintendo long ago, but for now, I'm just looking forward to the remakes that are released. So long as they do keep the same "flavor" and don't give up the spirit of the old and completely replace it with something different.

I think it might depend. I know this isn't talking about the PS1 games, but I've played FF7, FF8, and FF9 so much and am so used to those graphics that updating them wouldn't make me buy them again. I'd feel like they "fixed something that wasn't broken," basically.

I think that the originals are really good. But when it comes to extremely good remakes... You've gotta give FFChronicals credit. They didn't improve anything. All they did was take the original game and stick it on a PS1 disk. That's a very good way to remake a classic game.

FFIII wasn't released on PSX because it simply kicked too much ass for an 8-Bit game and they couldn't possibly disgrace it in any way by putting it's ROM helter-skelter on a PSX disk like they did for Anthologies and Chronicles (and Origin...?)...

I think that Dawn of Souls was good, but it's clear that these new visions are just that, new visions. These are not the games we played on the NES (or the Famicom games we may or may not have emulated anyways). Many people say that the difficulties are skewed, but I hardly think that matters much for these games. They look and sound a lot better if nothing else. But FFII is still an aggrivating mess and nothing short of a nuclear strike could fix it's blotchy leveling system.

FFIV Advance is pretty sweet as well. Since the FFII that we originally got on SNES was kind of a butchered version of this and the one in Chronicles (in NA), I tend to think that I prefer Advance. Plus, it doesn't have the loading or sound issues that you get w/the Chronicles version. This gives me hope for V and VI Advance. I just hope they'll give us newer translations for the games. RPGOne's FFVI retranslation is so much purer than the Woosleyism we're used to that I dunno if I could go back...but w/e I suppose...

And since FFIII is remade for the DS and it looks mighty good, I think that remakes aren't half bad.

I wouldn't mind seeing FFIV and FFVI remade in 3D (being the only oldschool FFs worthy of such a remake), but I'd only want new translations, better sound quality (we can't have MIDI again, can we?), and new graphics (of course). Everything else should remain the same or else become extras in some sort of New Game+ fashion...

edit: Oh, and I think that Sword of Mana clearly shows the true power and potential of remaking/revamping/retooling even the oldest of oldschool RPGs...

I bought the PS games, played VI for all of two hours and never touched them again except to check out the art galleries and such. Of course the load times are the one and only reason. It might not bother you but those few second of load times every time I open a menu and battles just drove me nuts. Especially when I can play them on my SNES--VI--or my ZSNES--the rest of them--with no problems.
I love the fact that they came out and I'm proud to have them in my FF collection that has its own little shrine in my game room. I'm even thinking about getting the Advance games just so they can join the rest of the gang
and I might even buy a system to play them because of the real additions that were made to the games ( New MP systems, dungeons, bosses or whatever ) but there are so many old SNES RPG's that have been and are being translated that finding the time to play all of them is tricky.
