Are there any particularly fantastic games or successful series' that you feel you've missed out on over the past few years? There are a couple for me and I've missed out on them predominantly because I've been a Sony fanboy and stuck with the playstation's whilst forsaking all others. There are two PSone's and two PS2's in my house at home and none of us have ever thought about buying another console. I can sense this changing in the future though. Alas I digress.
I think I've completely missed out on the Zelda series. I used to play ancient Zelda games on the NES/SNES and even tore through a ROM or too. Once it hit the N64 though, I never saw it again and I haven't played it since. I have no doubt that it's an epic game. Now with more Zelda's coming out you have to wonder whether you'll be able to slip into the series after missing so many previous games.
The new Soul Calibur games I've missed out on too, although this time I can't use the console excuse. I'm going to try and remedy this though by bagging Soul Calibur II in the near future and working my way on from there.
I'm making a conscious effort to keep abrest of the Metal Gear Solid games and I've played them all apart from Snake Eater, which I just couldn't get to grips with at all. That's one franchise I want to be proficient on.

Xenosaga.... i was not looking forward to the mass ammounts of liong cutscenes but someone gave me the game and I figured why not play it. I've learned to love the cutscenes :D

The Metroid series... the only games I ever liked by Nintendo.
I played the original Metroid on the NES and I've played Metroid 2, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, & Metroid Zero Mission on emulators, but since I'm never going to buy a Gamecube or a DS, I won't get to play the newer ones.
Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill are two popular series that have passed me by. Metal Gear because I played a demo of the first one and didn't find it very much fun, and Silent Hill because... well, I'm not sure. I've been meaning to try out one of the Silent Hills for a while now, actually.

I've always wanted to get into the Silent Hill series, seeing as how it honestly looks like a horrifying series and is probably complimented with strong storylines and characters. The problem is I could never get around to enjoying the play mechanics.

Metal Gear Solid, hands down.
I really wish I got into that, seems like a cool game. =(
Other games would be like... any horror games.. like Resident Evil, Silent Hill...
I wanted to get into Devil May Cry, too. I might buy the 3rd one... [That game looks really kick ass. :D]

I missed out on the Nintendo 64 last generation so that means I've never played games like the Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. I'm hoping with the emulation capabilities of the Revolution that I'll be able to play these wonderful games though. I also let Metal Gear solid slide by which I'm seriously regretting now as MGS 4 looks awsome.

Yeah, I've missed out on the Zelda series as well, because I'm mostly a fan of Sony. I've also missed out on Xenosaga, mostly because I'm here in China, and I can only get Japanese copies of the game here.

MGS seems to be a really nice series that everyone is always telling me I need to pick up. Xenosaga is less so in my circle of friends but I've heard great revies of it as an rpg series and really wish I had the time or money to ever get into it fully.
MGS is a series that everyone should at least try. even if you don't have a PS2, the MGS was remade for the gamecube (which i'd suggest over the original as it's not like MGS2 when it comes to graphics and features) plus MGS2 was updated and released on the Xbox and PC.
i'd have to go for the RE series and Zelda.
i'd have to blame Sony for Zelda. i've heard nothing but good stuff about the series but i'm to much of a graphics whore for ROMs and i don't have a Gamecube for the recent version that was released. the RE series is something i've heard about from a lot of people but i'm not a fan of the survival horror genre which has kept me away from games like RE and even Silent Hill.

I've been okay with RE, since it's said RE4 is the best, and it's for Playstation 2. It's Zelda I have to gripe about. And although I'm a great fan of the MGS series, I probably won't bother getting a PS3 for Guns of the Patriots, though.

I totally missed out on so many PC series like Warcraft or Counter Strike, which were great, even Half Life, I'm a big console gamer though, touched damn near anything mentioned here, but I could do a bit more of Metal Gear, I have the Twin Snakes, and the third game, never played the 2nd or original though.

I've missed out on Fable, but from what I've heard it was a little disapointing. I don't plan on getting a X-Box or 360, so anything else I'm pretty much missing out on. I was really tempted to get Jaded Empire though.

GTA: Sand Andreas. I haven't played it more than a half hour. It looks like fun, I just keep occupying myself with other ones.
But I really haven't played a video game for about two months.

Legend Of Zelda Majora's Mask and Tales of Symphoia (I think I spelt that wrong but meh) Majora's Mask I never got a change to save up enough Money to Buy it damn it and Tales Of Symphoia I just stuck my nose up at until I was told it was an awesome game, and by that time it was too late for me to buy it TvT
Zelda. It just seemed too late to get into it when I finally had the funds to go for games I thought non-essential (ie: anything that wasn't Mario). Now, though, I'm the proud owner of 3 consoles (no interest in the 360, though) and a gaming PC so I find I miss out on very little.
That said, there's plenty of things I wished I'd missed out on.

Had the original Zelda but never even completed it, just never got into them or had the attention span for them. Want to get into Silent Hill games but never got round to buying them, shame because I hear they are pretty good games.
The major one though has to be World of Warcraft - I just cant afford to pay monthly on that game and even though its supposed to be a great game, I just dont have any money to play it.

Tales of Symphonia, Zelda WW, Zelda Four Swords, and Valkyrie Profile. Also, I will probably be missing out on Zelda TP and possibly the remake of FFIII since I don't own any new Nintendo systems besides a DS.
It is such a shame...

I didnt have a Nintendo or Gameboy so I never got into the Zelda series. Looks awesome, still. I do feel sort of gutted that I missed that. Also, those Mario brothers, again, I totally missed out there too :(.
My pc was too rubbish to handle the Myst series, which looked totally awesome but I never met anyone who played them, so perhaps not a huge loss.

I think I've missed out on the Zelda series, too. I never got into it (even the NES ones) until recently, really. I think my first real experience was Wind Waker, though I never finished it and was reluctant to play it. Minish Cap was fun (I didn't think it would be)... and the first Zelda I completed!
And I finished Twilight Princess recently. That was pure awesome. Even though I didn't have as much background knowledge as the diehard fans, I was still able to [eventually] work out the puzzles, and it was just a really fun experience. I loved the world, characters, story, etc.
So I might try some more Zelda games on the Wii's virtual console when they come out. :o
HMM... I've missed out on loads of other games, but Rag is slowly rectifying that. :P
I still need to play KH2 and FF12.

As a Sony fan and a late bloomer to gaming I missed out on a majority of the Nintendo based games such as Zelda and even Mario. Can't blame my parents who were strict conservatives. :/
But as my loyalty to Sony wanes the Wii might remedy what I have missed out in the past. Hopefully I can get myself to endure the outdated graphics to play these classics.
Disgaea. Got discontinued here.
Ended up ebaying it. Hah.
"Missed the boat"? I didn't even turn up at the harbour. With my schedule and lack of funding, I often play games ages after it's been released, primarily because that's the amount of time it took for me to scrounge up enough money to upgrade my computer.
The latest one that I've missed is World of Warcraft. I can't explain it myself; the game's more of a "go this place, meet this guy, do stuff for this guy, etc." sort of game (FedEx quests, like in Baldur's Gate), but even so I seem to like this a lot. For one thing, it's more pleasing to the eye compared to Ragnarok Online (cuteness nonwithstanding)

Omg people haven't played MGS, crazy.
There are quite a few PS2 games I haven't played as I sold it because I needed the money, and those games are:
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Kingdom Hearts 2
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Substinence
- Dirge of Cerberus
and soon to be Final Fantasy XII
I'll play them when I get a PS3, and I'm not getting one straight away anyway.
The Metal Gear Solid series past by me quite quickly. I have no idea why. I mean I really enjoyed the first game. Then by the time it took me to think about the sequels there was already 4 out and everyone had played them 50 times over.
The whole MMORPG thing has never been able to captivate me. As Amry puts it FedEx kind of quests don't do it for me. I've played WoW for about 2 or 3 weeks now, and it's incredibly boring.
Kingdom Hearts. I got the first one on its release, but I couldn't get into it all so left it up until summer just gone. And now I'm finding KH2 all the more lacking in substance.

I've missed out massively on Zelda, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and Silent Hill. Recently I splashed out loads on games though and I actually attempted to remedy this, and I've now got practically every game worth getting in each of those series! (Except Silent Hill 1, can't be arsed to buy that yet).
So far I've played through Resident Evil 1 (GC) and have to admit that I absolutely love it. The puzzles, though frustrating at times contribute massively to the overall experience and it's a lot of fun. I was playing it on the easiest mode for my first play-through and the game was still a massive challenge. The crimson heads scared the shit out of me when I encountered them, as did the dogs (everytime a dog appeared I entered panic mode). The boss monsters are memorable as well, and I have to admit that one of the scariest parts for me had to be the Aqua Ring area with the sharks, shortly followed by the encounters with Lisa. My God, what a disturbing freak...
It's a real shame 2 and 3 weren't remade for the GC after all the effort that went into the first. I've played through 2 on easy now but it was..too easy, and undecidedly not scary at all. The zombies in the second game have nowhere near the same level of 'intimidation' as they do in the REmake, and I get the feeling that they're gonna get less and less scary as each game goes on.
DMC...well, I played the original but for some reason completely abandoned the series after that. I picked up 2 and 3 recently and have now decided to play through the entire series again (once RE's done anyway).
Zelda...a series I was never all that interested in previously, but it's something I've heard so much about that I made a gamble and decided to just go for broke. I like RPGs, and Zelda is hailed as being one of the best...so I picked up the Collector's Edition on GC (featuring all the NES games etc), the Wind Waker with Ocarina of Time and the GC version of Twilight Princess (for a stellar 40 quid no less, a damn sight cheaper than the £75 upwards I've seen it going for online). Haven't tried them yet, but I'm looking forward to starting.
I also picked up the silent hill collection and I've only played a little bit of the second one so far but it's already just...fucking wrong. Even the introductory part freaked me out where you walk towards the graveyard area and hear all sorts of noises around you...then the first encounter with the shambling freak in the town...and so far I've only reached the point where I discover the flashlight and have some little girl kick a key out of my reach. I gave up there as I couldn't find a simple way to get round the other side of the bars. But yeah, I see where it gets its reputation from as a freaky game, yet I couldn't help feeling somewhat let down. The fact that the town of Silent Hill seems completely over-run by the shambling freaks that inhabit it take the shock factor of them down massively, to the extent where after the first one they just weren't scary anymore. The leg-things (dunno the actual name for them) are just plain annoying. Seriously, how much of a beating can the bastards take?! Maybe it'll grow on me in time, or maybe it'd be more worth my time to play the first game before the 2nd. Who knows!
So yeah, that's pretty much it for me.
