In a late-breaking bit of news that was originally reported by GameFront, it would seem that Square Enix has confirmed that the Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy XIII project that was originally thought to be made up of two PS3 titles (Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII) and a mobile phone offshoot (Final Fantasy Agito XIII) actually spans a grand total of six separate titles. Not only that, but Square Enix's Motomu Toriyama has apparently stated that "other formats" will be getting titles in the Final Fantasy XIII series, meaning that at least in some capacity, Fabula Nova Crystallis is not a PS3 exclusive, at least as far as platforms other than the mobile phone are concerned.

Now this is interesting.

If we use FF7 as a basis;

FF13 = FF7
FFv13 = DoC
FFa13 = BC

--

This means we could expect a movie (FF13's version of Advent Children), a PSP or DS title (FF13's version of Crisis Core) and perhaps even a second cell game (FF13's version of Lost Tales: DoC) or a game that's format has yet to be determined (as FF13's version of FF7: EC, which should be done sooner or later to complete the compilation project).

One must wonder how badly MS will work to get their hands on one of them

I still think the liklihood of the 360 getting one or more titles (yes, including the main game) is quite high. I mean the games will skyrocket in the US and Europe if it were to released on the MS system.

I still don't like the idea of all these compilation projects.

Same here. I feel it's a ploy to get consumers to buy multiple systems. Money doesn't grow on trees Square. :(

I think that Squeenix aren't really taking into consideration the fact that the PS3 is a ridiculous console (if you live in the UK anyway). Listen to your former leader Square, listen.

I'm really out of touch with all the FFVII offshoots. I disapprove.

More importantly, are any of them even respectable?

The one product from the FF7 Compilation that may do FF7 some justice is Crisis Core, but even with that, it's still too early to tell.

It does however make you wish for the good old games, where you could play a game and wait a year or two for the next one to come out.

You get a game now, and you've got sequels, prequels, interquels, spinoffs, stories and movies all in different formats while the games which were released before end up on Nintendo consoles again, while all are done for Sony but one, which leaves them being left out, while the rest of the fans are annoyed that games like FF7 get special treatment while the game like love the most gets nothing else.

360 will never get a title: it's not a Japanish production, while Square is a Japanish company and sells more in Japan, so why should they care about Micrisoft (Squaresoft would never make a game for XBOX - SquareEnix made: FF11 online)?

a) Microsoft isn't limited to the US and Europe y'know, I bet you they shift a fair few consoles in Japan.
b) I never said going exclusive to the XBOX, there is a thing called multi-platform y'know.
c) Why SHOULDN'T they care? The game is pretty much compatible with the XBOX anyway, it wouldn't cost them too much to release it on both.

So stop being an idiot.

Microsoft is still fairly dead in the water in Japan, but the few Japanese titles there have sold reasonably well. However Final Fantasy is a series which has always sold well in Japan and in America, the revenue from both is roughly equal. Dragon Quest is the main Japanese breadwinner and even that has ditched the PS3.

There's no such thing as brand loyalty with corporations, it's all about installed user bases which is why developers are falling over themselves to port everything to the Wii and 360.

Releasing a main title on the the 360 would seriously damage the evolution of the FF premiere title. I mean, i bet production on FFXIII and FFVersusXIII as exceeded the disc capacity that 360 can handle. And lets be honest, the 360 isn't nowhere near the technical powerhouse the PS3 is.

SE are all about advancing, that will not happen on the 360, it will just hold back the potential.

Power isn't everything y'know :p I've never had any desire to own a PS3, I think the peeps here in the UK got the short end of the stick regarding that console. Mind you, I never really wanted an xbox 360 'til I bought one because good ol' Argos had a good deal.

I would like to see some of the FFXIII games on other consoles to be honest :) It might create some new fans out of those that neither have nor want a PS3 :)

I know it's totally different but look at Resident Evil 4 and how well that worked on the Wii (so I heard :p) so for any of the FFXIII titles that are gonna be a bit different than the usual FF game format, it may be worth SE's while to look at other consoles! :D

I think FF12 needs a sequel that doesn't suck and is on the PS3. If they'd have done it right the first time they'd still make money off of it without having to create another installment in the FF line this early.

To be honest, I would like to see FFVII, VIII and IX remade on the PS3 (or more ideally the 360 because I own one of them), but thats not gonna happen.
